SENIOR MATERIAL SCIENTIST - MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports directly to the Division's Senior Director of Packaging
Innovation.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

As the Senior Material Scientist you will develop new materials and structures
which will deliver functional benefits and/or reduced costs for packaging,
devices, and delivery systems.

You will be the Company expert for packaging material technology, interacting
across multiple functions within the company as well as externally with the
network of suppliers and consultants. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be responsible for the development of packaging innovation,
technology, and productivity targets to support the Company's strategic
objectives of growth and profit. 

This will include:
--R&D leadership of those projects from concept through definition,
development, and commercialization.
--Maintenance of package standards, specifications, and best practices.
--Identifying and installing strategic capabilities and processes for
innovation and speed to market.

REQUIREMENTS

--Minimum five years experience in the development of new materials
applications for disposable consumer products and/or packaging.
--Expertise in rigid polymers, films, laminates, paper and foils including
coatings, additives, fillers, composites and multilayer structures.
--Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following manufacturing
processes: flexible converting, injection molding, blow molding, and
thermoforming.
--Solid understanding of confections technology.

The position requires a PhD in Material Science or Chemical Engineering .

Reports to: Innovation Group Manager, Commercialization Engineering

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

--Provide the process of project management for both Innovation and selected
Supply Chain initiatives managing multiple interdependent projects toward a
common objective.
--Project Management emphasizes coordination and prioritizing resources
across projects, departments, and groups to insure overall objectives or goals
are met. 
--Included in Project Management will be overall management of the activities
from the team, setting targets, assignment of tasks, follow-up, completion and
startup, and technical review and feedback. 
--For major capital projects the work shall include the research, supervision,
and design and development for these projects for all phases of Global
Engineering projects, e.g., process and facilities, product development and
implementation, machine design, etc. Functions as overall project manager and
supervises assigned staff for these projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is accountable for the timely and efficient execution of approved
projects, regardless of engineering discipline.
--Manages the work of the various functions and departments in program
management
--Provides engineering feasibility, analysis, capital and expense project
estimates and project funding requests.
--Supervises various functions performed by other project and staff engineers,
along with draftspersons.
--Coordinates engineering projects, including personnel and engineering
resources and monitors progress through to completion.
--Provides technical assistance to personnel both inside and outside the
department during design, assembly, and initial testing stages and follows up
on installations during production runs to improve or modify as needed.
--Reviews unusual or questionable aspects of engineering projects and
recommends possible actions for resolution.
--Monitors the quality of work performed by design, drafting, and engineering
personnel to ensure finished projects are engineered to the highest attainable
--Manage the work and contributions of multi-functional groups to completion
of the overall project goal and can encompass a broad range of projects and
applications from within GE, but also from Innovation development and Supply
Chain. 

In addition, you will be assigned other technology development projects in
which new process or equipment technologies will be investigated, developed,
tested, validated and implemented across the broad spectrum of products and
processes of the company.

ACCOUNTABILITY

This position is accountable for the timely and efficient execution of approved
projects, regardless of engineering discipline.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

--Education:  BS/MS in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
--Experience:  10 years of project management experience within the food or
related industry.  Supervisory experience is a plus.
--Excellent written and oral communication skills

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

--The Senior Project Manager must have  the experience to work independently,
managing the work of others to achieve project goals that include meeting the
agreed schedule for completion, cost control, and project quality. 
--The individual must work well with all associates across engineering and
other departments. 
--Well developed written and verbal communication skills are a necessity.  The
incumbent should be proficient in typical office and engineering computer
applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and project management. 
--A basic understanding of CAD drawing applications is a plus.

Top International company needs a Scientist-Process Development (Coffee)/Beverage RTD in New York State, just miles from NYC. This Engineer in RTD/product developer is responsible for working with business units, engineers and pilot plants in the dev. of the beverage product. Requires knowledge of various beans, an understanding of roasting, blending, and brewing, the linking process, chemistry and sensory.
