Essential Job Duties: Responsibilities include: to research and evaluate various polymer materials exhibiting selectivity toward explosives threat substances as sanctioned by the department of homeland security. The chemist will more specifically work with both conductive polymers as well as non-conductive polymers including the aggregation of these compounds. The chemist will be supported by outside laboratories with expertise in both of these areas of chemistry. In addition, a program manager will be teamed with the scientist since this job assignment is indeed to yield a viable product for commercial and industrial applications to protect the interest of various public transportation systems, worldwide. The candidate should be a team player and have the skills and know how to take a leadership position in advancing this technology and further its application into a viable commercial product. Ensure that results of IR&D programs are properly documented and implemented. Ensure that critical IR&D programs are successfully completed in time to support new business opportunities. Support product lines in the development and implementation of contract research and development (CRAD) plans, and lead in CRAD planning and implementation for items not assigned to product lines. Evaluate and guide proposal technical approach through design reviews. Present research and development programs to customers. Evaluate the applicability of technical trends to existing and new products. Lead patent and trademark acquisitions.

Education/Experience Requirements: The candidate must have PhD in chemistry plus seven years chemical engineering experience including at least two years of experience in polymer materials. Due to the sensitivities of the program subject matter, US citizenship is required. Fluent in English, fluency in German would be a benefit. Security clearances a plus or at least having the history to achieve such clearances.
