Stanford Linear Accelerator Center - Electrical Safety Manager/Engineer

Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) is one of the world's leading
research laboratories in high-energy physics and synchrotron radiation, and is
operated for the U.S. Department of Energy by Stanford University.

Responsibilities:
-- Report directly to the Power Conversion Department Head
-- Provide Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H) support to the Power
Conversion Department (PCD) Head by coordination of compliance efforts, report
generation, self-assessment and audit/inspections
-- Assist PCD line managers in preparing for audits/inspections, self-
assessment and training activities
-- Represent PCD in internal and external safety reviews and participate in
field walkthroughs
-- Ensure effectiveness of PCD integrated safety management plans and self-
assessment programs by maintaining department-level documentation and providing
guidance to PCD line managers and workers
-- Produce department quarterly safety reports and other reports for the
Operations Directorate
-- Assist PCD engineers and line managers in writing electrical and non-
electrical safety procedures
-- Perform role of department accident investigator and analyze incidents and
injuries within PCD on a monthly basis in order to share lessons learned with
PCD management
-- Share and resolve safety issues with PCD managers and staff
-- Chair the PCD safety committee that holds monthly meeting and coordinate
the distribution of the minutes
-- Meet weekly with department management and monthly with maintenance
personnel to discuss and act on safety issues
-- Assist in providing and managing information on the department safety
webpage, working with office administrative support staff to ensure site is
useful and accurate
-- Serve as PCD safety point-of-contact to the Operation Directorate and other
ES&H coordinators
-- Serve as a PCD representative on the SLAC Electrical Safety Committee and
other non-electrical committees

Required Skills:
-- B.S.E.E. degree
-- Safety Certificate or equivalent experience is desirable
-- Several years of experience working in the safety field or accelerator
electrical systems
-- Experience with OSHA or other similar agency compliance requirements
-- Accident investigation training and experience a plus
-- Familiarity with project management tools such as Microsoft Project and
Excel
-- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage programs and lead
organizational team efforts
-- Ability to work independently
-- Demonstrated ability to initiate and follow through on tasks, resolve
problems as required and apprise management of issues and proposed solutions
-- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills required (both
verbal and written)
-- Supervisory experience is helpful
-- Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data and write reports
-- Familiarity with SLAC (or similar organization), organization, culture,
staff, operations and procedures is highly desired
